Kék Huszár Restaurant
Restaurant
The restaurant is situated near the castle, in a building that is more than a hundred years old.
Its menu is dominated by traditional Hungarian dishes. The house, where the restaurant is situated, is one of those buildings that already stood in 1625 and which was part of Kőszeg’s German suburb, the Sziget (Island). At that time, haures (hoemen), the German wine-workers lived here. The expression Hauerhause (Hoemenhouse), originates from this.
The restaurant was named Kék Huszár (Blue Hussars) because, between 1681-1912, Kőszeg had a permanent cavalier garrison with some Hussar regiments and one of which had a blue uniform. This regiment was of Nádasdy in 1714, wearing blue trousers, pelisse and jacket with red hat and bag.
Summer evenings are even more enjoyable having a nice meal and drinks in the garden.
